Home Ownership

The City has a broad-based homeownership program for residents. The City uses a combination of funds (BEGIN, CalHFA) to provide down payment assistance to homebuyers seeking to purchase units in the Town Square project. The Ontario OPEN (Ownership Program Enhancing Neighborhoods) House Program provides down payment and closing cost assistance to first-time low income homebuyers. Financial assistance not to exceed 6 percent of the sales price of the property is provided in the form of a 45-year, zero percent, deferred payment loan with an equity share component based on the length of ownership at the time of resale. The City of Ontario also works in conjunction with NPHS, a nonprofit organization, to further the City’s homeownership goals through homebuyer education, counseling, and down payment assistance.
